Devil's Claw Tincture
For the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and musculoskeletal pain.
Devil's claw tincture (Harpagophytum procumbens)
It is a creeping herbaceous, perennial plant with a strong central root. The leaves are irregular and gray-green, covered with tiny whitish sticky cells while its flowers are trumpet-shaped and are found in red, purple and pink, which turn yellow inside. Its characteristic fruits are woody, oval capsules with two central spines and two lateral rows of 12 to 16 pointed hook-shaped spines (rapagus), which contain brown and black oblong rough seeds. It usually thrives in lowlands and dunes, on sandy soil but also on stony, although it has been associated with the dry sandy landscape of the Kalahari Desert.
It has long been known as a medicinal plant, with the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert having been the first to use it for many generations. A German, GH Mehnert, learned about this plant from the Bushmen of Namibia and introduced it to Europe in 1904 when he exported it to Germany. Global consumption of the plant began to increase dramatically after 1962, and this increase continues in our century, where it is considered a cure for many diseases.
The value of arpagophyta in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and musculoskeletal pain is recognized worldwide. Studies have shown a reduction in joint pain and an improvement in joint mobility and flexibility due to its anti-inflammatory properties , which are comparable to those of cortisone and the component phenylbutazone.
Its main substances, which are responsible for its great effectiveness, are arpogside and B-sitosterol.
Devil's claw tincture in modern herbal medicine is mainly used to treat various types of arthritis, including gout, and myalgia, tendonitis, bruises, joint pain from intense exertion, etc.
